Summer Project 2019
For our 2019 “I CARE” project, without our founders for the first time, “I CARE” team selected TianJiaBing ethnic Middle School, located in Southern China, after communicating with the English department and with the support of 40 students, selected from both 7th and 8th grade. This trip represented something bigger as our new members were challenged to lead the entire project and bring upon the local students of TianJiaBing ethnic Middle School a closer look of the English language and its importance, as well as its impacts upon the world, more specifically, the US and Canada.

Summer Project 2019: Text
As our first presentation for “I CARE”, we adopted the similar topic from last year, focusing on helping the students improve on their use of English. Using several games, like Pictionary, Jeopardy, etc. (commonly played in the US and Canada) allowed the students to be more interested in using English for communication. Also, we presented a variety of Western cultures like music, holidays, and sports, giving them a better idea of the Western communities and the involvement of the English language.

This year, out of mere luck, we had the chance to connect with the students outside of class as well, as we visited the school after class hours and played football(soccer) with them, we were able to build a stronger connection, also getting to know their lives as students in the Yunnan province.

The students’ hard work and eagerness to learn was heartwarming, especially after seeing the improvement from each of them after these 2 short days. Words cannot describe how grateful we are for this given opportunity by the teachers from the English department at TianJiaBing ethnic Middle School. As students ourselves, contributing to the education of English in rural areas of China also brings us the experience of a lifetime. New friendships were made and the connection between the students and our team deepened, and none of this would’ve been possible without the assistance from the teacher Ms. Mu. We sincerely hope this project will bring more joy and wonders for the students in China in the future.
