Summer Project 2017: What We Do

2017 I❤care July. 10th - 14th
NO.1 Middle School, Ning’er Hani and Yi Autonomous County, Yunnan Province, China
40 Grade 10 students and all teachers in English department
Content:
- Introducing American/Canadian school life and extracurricular activities; difference in American and Chinese schools
- Introducing interesting and special courses in Canada and US, and Western holidays
- English Corner
- Debate

This time, away from the urban ambiance, we arrived at a beautiful and tranquil city, Jiangcheng. Hours of curvy mountain roads did not lessen our willingness and enthusiasm to host the event. Classes for different grade levels were introduced; all of the students got the chance to immerse themselves in an “English-only” environment and practice their oral, reading and writing skills. We not only opened a window for local students to the outside world, but also gained remarkable experiences.

Having hosted this event for four years, our experience gave us more confidence. Learning from previous years, we improved this year’s event significantly in terms of content and the variety of activities. We also participated in a student-run event called English Corner, in which we communicated and connected more deeply with individual students. At the same time, we also have a new member in our team this year: Janay. Even though she was only 13 years old and born in Canada, she was not afraid to share her stories and connect with students. Janay inspired many students, who were at her age, to take risks and speak out.
Summer Project 2017: Services
Through this event, I Care members connected with local students deeply; at the same time, students boosted their English knowledge and, most importantly, gained interest and joy in the process of learning. We would love to say a big thank you for the support and help from Ms. Yao and all the teachers in English department! We hope to reunite in 2018!
